1. old town & Mirabell garden

Take a walk through Mirabellgarten and check out the fountain from The Sound of Music and the fortress behind it, where the civil ceremony will take place in 2019. Then follow the street to Getriedegasse or Linzergasse and stroll through the local stores. Sit down for a drink at Wein&Co or Stein Terrace and then buy a fro-yo at Fabi's Frozen Yogurt.

2. traditional brew pub

Visit Augustinerbrau for a traditional Austrian beer experience. Pay for your beer, grab a Maß and rinse it out at the fresh water taps. Then get in line to hand the brewmaster your Maß. Sit outside in the beer garden or in one of the pubs and visit the snack bars for a pretzel or other snack.

3. fortress high Salzburg

Take the funicular to the castle in the center of Salzburg's old town. At the top you will find a museum, a restaurant and a nice walk. Experience a bit of history and afterwards eat one of the best Kaiserschmarns in Salzburg in the restaurant.

4. cathedral quarter / Mozart's Birth House & Tomaselli

For history nerds, the Dom-Quartier tour is an absolute must. You'll visit the Residence Rooms (which you may recognize from the movie "Amadeus") and the Cathedral Museum. Or maybe you'd rather visit Mozart's birthplace, which is just a five-minute walk away? After soaking up some culture, take a short break at Café Tomaselli to enjoy a piece of cake and a fragrant coffee, and be sure to buy some Mozartkugeln as delicious souvenirs - the locals will whisper that only the blue and silver ones are the "real" ones.

5. hellbrunn

A few minutes outside the city lies Hellbrunn, where you can discover the palace, the park and the water games, a real "source" of joy, and not only for children. The landscaped gardens alone are worth a visit, while the famous pavilion from "The Sound of Music" is the absolute highlight for many. And don't forget to pack a picnic basket, stuffed with delicious bites!

6th Sound of Music Bicycle / Bus Tour

If you want to join one of the local "Sound of Music" tours - which are extremely popular with visitors to the city - you will also visit many of the places listed here. You can choose between a bike or bus tour (on a nice summer day, the bike version would be perfect, of course). You'll be able to "check off" the *marked attractions and many more on one of these tours. Schloss Leopoldskron is worth a visit in itself - another picturesque attraction here in Salzburg. Fun fact: Very few locals have even seen "The Sound of Music," so you might get quizzical looks if you suddenly start singing "The hills are alive..." during a conversation.
